A reply to Justine Smith's post "Why Criticism: When Podcasts Reign and 5 Essentials" at Vague Visages (problems posting with Wordpress, so I will post it here for now)
Cinephiliacs is easily an essential podcast as it is documenting the careers/histories of today's film thinkers/critics and You Must Remember This is a great exploration of classic Hollywood's history. My first listen to Yo, Adrian got stuck on an absurd rant about Woody Allen, but the details on their posts for their podcast convinced me that it is worth revisiting. My first listen to Black Men Can't Jump in Hollywood was the Jungle Book episode and I was unimpressed, I'll try the Don Cheadle episode. Mousterpiece Theater ... do we need a publicity machine for Disney films?
Of course we all have our likes/interests, but it would seem an essential list would have included the incredible work being done by Mike White and collaborators with The Projection Booth podcast.
In the spirit of sharing, here are some regular podcasts I listen to on my daily walks:
Adjust Your Tracking; The Canon; Cinema Gadfly; The Cinematologists; Cinephilia Anonymous; Criterion Cast; Criterion Close-Up; The Eclipse Viewer; Film School; Filmspotting; Filmwax Radio; The Final Cut; Flix Wise; Hello Cinema; Illusion Travels by Streetcar; InSession Film; I Was There Too, Masters of Cinema Cast; The Next Picture Show; No Film School; On Film; Outside the Cinema; The Playlist; Pop Culture Case Study; Scriptnotes; The Treatment; Wrong Reel
Once again, I'm not complaining, I appreciate the efforts of these podcasts and want to make sure they get the attention they deserve. I look forward to your future posts on this subject.
