Cultures of Resistance: “Once again it is the unarmed civilian population, which is in the eye of the storm, victimized in the name of a falsely construed right to self-defense, invoked after an escalation of violence provoked in the face of the entire international community.” -- Joint declaration by over 140 international legal experts (including attorneys from our ally, the Center for Constitutional Rights) denouncing the Israeli government’s collective punishment of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. The declaration recalls that “the entire population of the Gaza Strip, for over seven years, has been virtually imprisoned by the regime of closures imposed by Israel,” and urges the governmental leaders of Palestine to invoke the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

Brain Pickings (August 6, 2014) ["Ever since her remarkable 2008 animated feature film Sita Sings The Blues, I’ve been a great admirer of animator, cartoonist, and free-culture activist Nina Paley’s creative and meta-creative work.
